Thai Language

Most Thais don't speak English very well, including the sales attendants in malls, waiters and waitresses, or policemen. It is thus good to learn a few Thai phrases as soon as you get here. Several teachers have taken conversational Thai language lessons, either by themselves or as a small group. A few have managed to become rather fluent in just a short time by immersing themselves in Thai culture, moving out of the expat-dominated Thana City to live among locals, and watching Thai TV shows and movies. You may have to go out of your way to learn Thai as English is more likely your everyday language in school with teachers, students, and the office staff. There are many dictionaries, tapes, and books available in Asia Bookstore to help you on this. For the more tech-savvy, there are also electronic dictionaries that many of our students use, and CD-ROMs.
