Many medications are available over-the-counter in Thailand than in America. You will find an ample supply of pain relievers including Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Alleve, though they may have different names. NyQuil, Robittusin and other cough and cold medicine is also available over the counter. If, however, you require a specific medicine, or a particular brand or a medicine, please check with the school nurse about its availability. Contact lens solutions like Acuvue and Sequens can be bought in any optical shop in commercial districts and malls. You can even visit a dentist, consult a dermatologist, and have your eyes checked in a mall.
There are several good local hospitals with plenty of English speaking staff. Please do not be afraid of the word "hospital" - most doctors work out of hospitals. Although it is possible to make appointments, it is also possible to walk in and see an English speaking doctor. Some teachers and their families went through pregnancy and childbirth, surgery, and regular check ups without any problems. As a matter of fact, many of them attest to the world-class quality of medical care at the leading hospitals in Bangkok.
