Over the weekend, 50 student volunteers from the Class of 2017 and five teacher-chaperons devoted their time and energy in Making A Difference in the lives of others through a Community Service Project.
On Saturday morning, 15 November 2014, the group coordinated with Mr. Neo of the NGO Green Pattaya and cleaned up a Homeless Camp along the Central Road of Pattaya Klang from 9:00 to around 11:30 in the morning. The place was heavily polluted by various materials and objects and the group, upon entering the area, was somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of rubbish. Nevertheless, they helped clean up the place and 100 bags were collected with all the trash and rubbish together with another 30 bags of recyclables, sorted out into different categories.
In the afternoon of the same day, the group headed over to the Child Protection and Development Center (CPDC) and spent time with the kids of the area. Our students prepared song numbers and dance routines, as well as games and activities that involved the community. Aside from all these, they brought snacks and goodies and other donation materials for the children and the less fortunate staff in the place.
The next day, Sunday morning, 16 November 2014, the group took 39 kids from Fr. Ray Foundation’s Home for the Street Children for their McDonald’s treat. This is not the first time the group had been with these children and seeing familiar faces once again made the atmosphere more relaxing and friendly.
It was truly a worthwhile weekend of service learning, great interaction, and wonderful bonding.
The TCIS ESLers at its best!
